Excerpt
"I hate Christmas," Lydia scowled as she slammed the phone. "What happened?" Abigail asked the birthday girl. "Joey said he'd come, but had to back out last minute because his grandma wouldn't let him skip their family Christmas party." Lydia slumped forward. Her eyes glistened with unshed tears. The girl had a crush on Joey since she was twelve; she'd turn beetroot-red when he talked to her in church, but the moron was totally oblivious to her feelings for him. "Hey, I'm here," Abigail gave her old pal a big bear hug. "Troy's coming and he's way hotter than Joey." "Joey's nicer," Lydia shrugged, staring into the distance, a wistful look in her eyes, her lips in a soft, gentle curve. "Troy's too stuck up, like he's too good for everyone else."
